Capoeira
Capoeira is a unique Afro-Brazilian martial art developed initially by African slaves in Brazil, starting in the colonial period. It is marked by deft, tricky movements often played on the ground or completely inverted. Renowned for its fluidity, grace, and power, Capoeira combines elements of martial-arts, dance, music and acrobatics. There are two main styles of Capoeira that are clearly distinct. Angola is characterized by slower, lower play with particular attention to the rituals and tradition of Capoeira. The other style, Regional is known for its fluid acrobatic play, where technique and strategy are the key points. Regional was created by Mestre Bimba. Both styles are marked by the use of feints, use groundwork extensively, as well as sweeps, kicks, and headbutts. Sinha Capoeira is a practices Regional style of Capoeira, focusing on newer and more martially-oriented game.
Regional is more mainstream and accessible to the public. While ‘capoeiristas’ (Capoeira players) can sometimes play Angola-like, slow games, the Regional style is most often composed of fast and athletic play. It is combat-oriented while maintaining the trickiness of Capoeira Angola. |

SINHA' CAPOEIRA
Capoeira was founded and started on September 2006 under the coordination and direction of Contra-Mestre Chuvisquinho. After a mutual agreement between him and his master; on April 2006 Chuvisquinho disconnects with the activities of the Associacao de Capoeira Mandingueiros dos Palmares founded by Mestre Chuvisco where he had been raised and graduated after 27 years. After six months of trying to decide whether or not to continue his journey in Capoeira, Chuvisquinho together with his students decided to continue on the path of Capoeira under the denomination of S.I.N.H.A. CAPOEIRA (Sistema Integrado e Nucleo Hierarquico da Arte Capoeira –Hierarchical Nucleus and Integrated System of the art of Capoeira). Sinha were the wives and daughters of slave owners who would always risk themselves to help our black heroes called escravos (slaves) during the time of slavery, thus taking a huge role in their freedom. Each day Capoeira is earning its space in the world, integrating different people and cultures, In our lives and in the lives of millions of people around the world, Capoeira is our ‘Sinha’ because it gives us freedom of expression, conducting a way of life unlike any other.
SISTEMA INTEGRADO (Intergraded System) - without of being a haughty Capoeira group, in our identity, we are a collective group of people who are initially integrate for our interest in learning Capoeira and its purity through the study of its philosophy and practice. We understand the importance of the words union, friendship, family and group; having our main objective of collaborating, integrating, and building a knowledge of Capoeira without discriminating anyone based on race, sex, nationality; thus making this Brazilian culture an identity that anyone can associate themselves with.
NUCLEO HIERARQUICO (Hierarchical Nucleus) - Descendents from the ACMP, our activities have its main techniques and philosophy directly connected to our roots. We try to preserve everything we learned, placing our learned knowledge to practice in our day to day activity. We maintain in the same knowledge we inherited from the ‘mestre’, always respecting the hierarchy of Capoeira, what we learned from him; for he is the one who transmitted the art and from him come this heritage that unites us today.

Philosophy
We believe that Capoeira is a platform of freedom in expression; therefore, we always try to evolve Capoeira in its plenitude. Also, without focusing our work in radically changing our own style, and having Capoeira Regional as our main reference, we are constantly trying to keep up with its daily evolution.
We train Capoeira as a social form to keep its valuable culture, in being an expressive image of the Brazilian culture, we focus on learning the martial arts, music, acrobatic, artistic aspects just like those who practice it around the world,
Capoeira is not just known for being a healthy activity or a form of physical exercise, but also for teaching and having a mental and spiritual benefit; being that Capoeira teaches its students the elements needed for one search his or hers own freedom, and if allowed by the students over its body and soul. We base our work in the deep mentality of ‘Preservation’ while seeking a vision of one day being like Capoeira, without illusion, with our pleasures and obstacles that are to overcome; we search for a physical and mental evolution.

Our work is based on the following ethics and topics:
-Preservation of culture through Capoeira and its traditions, without decharacterizing its improvements technical evolution; having the ‘mestre’ the main figure and our main fountain of knowledge.
-Infiltrate the practice, history and reflection of Capoeira in education institutions, gyms, related communities, just to name a few.
-Understand individual differences; evaluate one’s potentials and characteristics.
-Understand the evolutionary process of Capoeira and show the student that he/she is a conductor of a millennial art.
